Geographic Focus. Mara will generally invest in companies that are located within a few hours travel time from our offices in Belgium or Washington, D.C., affording our portfolio companies ready access to guidance and consultation. Our location in Brussels allows us to cover most of Western Europe including Scandinavia. Belgium is located geographically in the center of the biotechnology hotbed in Europe. From our Washington D.C. office we cover the Mid-Atlantic region from North Carolina to New Jersey. This area is the center of the genomics industry and home to the National Institutes of Health and the Johns Hopkins Medical Center. This region offers a wealth of support infrastructure for early stage companies. Outside these areas, Mara may co-invest with local venture capitalists with whom it has a working relationship.
